Blog posts are a bit thin on the ground here at Widder Island at the moment.
But I have a great reason for it …
…apart from all our conniptions and Wunder-Luster-ish plans … (currently standing at Plan Q – alphabetically speaking)
… and having a run of glorious sunny days where neither of us want to do a damn thing but wallow in it. It’s the kind of Spring sun that sits around 22-25 °C but the earth hasn’t warmed up (or dried out) yet to make it uncomfortably hot …

New leaves on the Winter Tree, and look at that glorious blue sky!
… and me badly spraining my ankle (it’s only now, three weeks later, stopped hurting every time I put any weight on it) the day we brought our trailer back from storage. (someone parking on the grass verge, and with never-ending months of rain turning everything underneath the grass to mud, left a bloody great trench for me to step into as I was guiding Mrs Widds as she backed the trailer into it’s spot) …
… I have been writing … lots.
105,000-ish words to be exact-ish, of a new novel. I started it in January and have been going gang-busters ever since.
Last night I finished the grand almost-at-the-end climactic scene, (I was sweating blood, I can tell you! All that choreography to get right, along with everything else, but very proud of it I am!) and only have a chapter or two of ‘aftermath-y’ tidying up left to do.
This is just the first draft, though. Once those last chapters are writ, it’s editing time … which I must confess, I enjoy, just about as much as I do writing first drafts. I’m a bit odd like that.
My goal was to write 2000 words on all my writing days, and by now I can whip them up in a couple of hours … the plan is to keep on writing thusly for the foreseeable future, now that I have a handle on it and it’s well and truly a habit by now, because of course there’s going to be a sequel.

In other Wunder-Lusters-y news …
We replaced out flat tonneau cover on the tray of our truck with a soft-top canopy. Sooooo much more room to load up with boxes and assorted householdery to take to the storage unit.

Yep, that’s me reflected in the front window, or at least my shoulder. Not sure what was happening with my head, probably a ‘reflection’ of how my brain feels sometimes with all that writing
It’s not just for transporting boxes. This is another step in our plan to go adventuring. The additional storage will hold our generator, spare cans of gasoline, propane bottle, emergency survival gear, etc, some of which with the flat tonneau cover, we would’ve had to store in the trailer itself as we traveled – not a good look.

Shiny new bones
It didn’t take us that long to assemble …

And this is how she looks all buttoned up … another step closer to the Dream
Big shout-out to Softopper in Boulder, Colorado, USA … for not only crafting a thing of beauty, but getting it to us when they promised!!!

NEWSFLASH!
Monday night … our Premier just announced that all non-essential travel outside of our health region will soon be restricted. (banned, in other words) They’re working on the guidelines as we speak, but it’ll be quite a few months before the regions open up again.
Not that we hadn’t discussed this possibility, and were preparing for it, in our understated yet stylish way, 🙂 and we’ll be able to get away for a bit to the campground we stayed in last year, just up the road, but realistically, any long-term, and long-distance, travelling is off the table for this year. Never say ‘never’, of course, because Herself, (or the Universe, or what/whomsoever) has the final say in such things.
But, that, as they say, is that.
Well done with the writing. Even going just up the road is an adventure compared with total lockdown!

Congrats on writing so much. I’m still struggling with my new novella.

Thanks 😀 … we all know that struggle don’t we? I hope something breaks for you and the words get themselves moving. 🙂

I wondered if state borders closed in Canada because of Covid like they do here. It does put a stopper on travelling, that’s for sure. I hope you have a plan to fall back on. Your writing sounds impressive. I am writing too but have had a few days off because I needed to do other things. It’s impressive that you have kept going every day. Good luck with the 2nd draft.

We call ’em ‘provinces’ here 🙂 … and we’ve not closed them here in BC before, mostly driven by economics, unfortunately, but ‘advisories’ have been in place for a year now and haven’t done the trick.
… I should get the last chapter finished tonight, and then it’s on with the editing! 😀

We sometimes get state border closures with as little as 24 hours notice! It’s putting many people off going interstate. They do help stop the spread of covid though. Good luck with the last chapter. My second draft has turned into a major rewrite so I’ve still to write a final chapter! I may never finish…

You’re still doing better than I am – getting out. Just do it while you can.

There are lots of beautiful spots in our region where we can camp, so it doesn’t look all doom-and-gloomy today, as it did last night.

Very impressed by your productivity, Widds and sorry about the ankle! All any of us can hope for, is that our dreams survive being put on hold…

Thanks 😀 … my ankle is firming up nicely. I just have to remember not to do anything silly with it for a while … heh, famous last words, eh? 😀

What a bummer. A good job with writing, though – and hopeful improvement of the ankle.

Thanks 😀 … I’m going forth to mow the lawn this afternoon, we’ll see how my ankle holds up to that sort of exercise. I have high hopes, and an ice-pack in case it’s needed afterwards. 🙂

What you need is some rooftop strobe lights on the pick-up, some fancy decals [‘Section IVa Emergency Outbreak Testing Unit with Para-Isolation Conductivity’ or some such] and some laminated “passes” on red lanyards… get you anywhere, if you approach road-blocks at sufficient speed.
I remember once I discovered while at work (a hundred miles and more distant) that my sister was in hospital having an operation… I left work, oiked up to the hospital in my full suit-and-shiny-shoes drag with – unthinkingly – my works passes still dangling all over me… ad was promptly addressed as ‘Sir’ and shown quickly through to the recovery room just outside the operating theatre. A shock to both me and to my sister…
The best place to hide anything is out in the open. The best place to commit crime is where everyone is looking (looking but not seeing). 😉
It’s worth a try!

The Widmobile/Widship looks mighty fine for new adventures. And circular claps for the output. Most splendid.

Widdershins, 105,000 words in 3 1/2 months is pretty awesome!!! And the soft top for your truck is a great solution for carrying those necessary extras. Hope you can make the best use of the new restrictions to get that novel done!

Heh, I feel rather awesome even if I do say so myself. I think I’ve finally found my groove. 😀 … the last chapter will get finished tonight and then it’s full speed ahead with the editing and polishing. 😀

Not for a few more weeks at least. This is just the first draft. It needs a tad more polishing before it goes out the door. 😀

Massive grats on the writing, Widds! And you’re not alone. I rather enjoy editing too. 🙂
If the regions are being locked down that means the virus is out of control. Please take care, both of you.

Thanks 😀 … I reckon I’ll finish the last chapter tonight, and then it’s DONE!!!
… It’s the variants that did us in, and I think a bit of complacency. 😦 … not us specifically, we’re both very aware of how vulnerable we are and don’t take chances.

Omg…by the time you read this, you /will/ be done. Congratulations!!!!
And yes, it’s the variants I fear too. Australia has done well, but far too many people are acting as if it’s all over bar the shouting.
I’m glad you two are being careful.

That’s impressive writing output, especially considering you’ve been sorting and packing and getting organized. The travel ban is a bummer, but makes sense. And I hope your ankle heals thoroughly. I have one shaky ankle that gives me random spasms of pain.
The Widmobile (love that name!) looks great.

Thanks 😀 I think so too. I feel like I’ve finally, after I-don’t-know-how-many-years of doing this, found my groove! 😀
I feel a bit more hopeful this morning, not that we’ll get going permanently this year, but that the lockdown won’t be for as long as I feared.
We think she looks great too. 😀
