1 – my CT scan came back clear, so I know another thing that isn’t causing my vertigo. I’ve learned to live with the sensations, it helps living in a small cottage, there’s always a wall nearby to lean on if required. The ’tilt factor’ hasn’t actually lessened but I tell myself that the world is right where I left it and to not succumb to the aural illusions. It mostly works, most of the time.
2 – It’s raining. The Autumn Tree outside my window has thrown off her green summer chapeau and has wrapped herself in a snug shawl of reds, and oranges, and yellows. Droplets of rain plink from leaf to leaf almost like notes being played on a piano. The tiny birds who frequent her dappled branches this time of year have returned and are probably busy collecting all sorts of wee beasties for supper, but they do look like they’re dancing to the tune of the raindrops.

Dancing in the rain
3 – A hundred years ago, in 2019, I wanted to start making videos for our ‘Wunder-Lusters’ adventures but my poor old computer wasn’t up to the task. Mrs Widds needed an upgrade too, (her computer that is) so … fast forward to today where the first component of our new system has arrived. It’s Mrs Widds new monitor.
The hard-drives and other assorted ‘peripherals’ should arrive today too, but you never know with these things. The fact that we bought everything together, at the same place, on the same day, doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll all be delivered on the same day.
I’ve had enough time to shift from, ‘Emegherd! Setting up a new computer is HELL!!!’, to ‘this is rather exciting’. Mind you, that might not last past the fifteenth snafu though. We’re planning on doing all that fun stuff this weekend, so I’ll let you know how it goes.
4 – The kitchen sink cold-water tap came off in my hand the other day. I wish I could say that I had a grip of iron, but it ain’t so. The bastard has been leaking for a while so it was just a matter of time. Also, the shower hot-water tap leaks, and the vanity taps, also in the bathroom, are corroded beyond redemption.
All that is to preface a plumber coming tomorrow, somewhere between the hours of midday and 2pm, to amend the above. Oh, you can guffaw, but plumbers have been known to turn up on the day they’re supposed to. (expecting them at the time of day they say, is a tad utopian)
There’s a catch, there’s always a catch. Two sets of replacement taps have been delivered, the third (and most important, the shower taps) are due to arrive today, at some point, they haven’t yet.
5 – the up-side (down-side? … depends on your point of view, I suspect) of getting a new computer is I have to go through ALL the old documents and files stored on my current computer, (as well as the masses of stuff saved to my external drive, some of which I haven’t set eyes on for most of the last decade) and delete and/or cut-and-paste, onto my external drive. I regularly back-up my current work, (a writer only forgets to back-up her files once. ‘Tis a painful but well-learned lesson) but some of this stuff originated last century!
6 – I was going to publish this post yesterday, but our computers arrived and I got a wee bit distracted … and today the plumber turned up, EARLY! … my head is spinning!

Just the thing a woman with vertigo needs – a spinning head
P.S. The third set of taps hasn’t shown up, so the 2020 effect is still in operation. The plumber will return when they do.
The tree is absolutely beautiful 😍

What a busy life you were leading! Do you wear nail polish? I started wearing a nail strengthener. I had used it years earlier with no ill affects. I started experiencing severe vertigo. But only when I was in bed. Weird. For an unknown reason I looked at the ingredients of this nail strengthener and saw formeldhyde . I don’t know how to spell that word and neither does the computer. I took it off and never suffered vertigo again . Just a thought.

Heh, I don’t think I’ve ever used nail polish (at least on my nails – it has myriad other uses though) … but that’s an interesting tidbit of information. I got a new office chair some time ago and had to return it because the ‘new leather’ smell (which smelled exactly like formaldehyde) wasn’t fading and I felt nauseous from the smell. I wonder if that was a trigger for the vertigo to up it’s game, so to speak.

I’m much relieved your noggin is okay. I’ve had a wee taste of vertigo and it ain’t nice. Yours sounds awful. Are you going to keep on investigating? And grats on the new pcs. Also commiserations. lol

Thank’ee kindly : ) … unless the vertigo kicks into high-gear again, I’m just going with the flow.

I wish you both well with the computers. You clearly have a reliable plumber. The rain paragraph is most poetic. I hope the vertigo is less troublesome.

The vertigo I’m used to now so it’s not as discombobulating, the plumber was a very pleasant surprise, and I love my Tree, : )

Have you tried the Epley manouvre for vertigo? I had vertigo when I had chronic fatigue and a doctor gave me information on the manouvre. Some vertigo is caused by the build up of platelets (whatever they are!) in the ears. The manouvre clears them. It worked for me but I know other people with vertigo who get no relief. Still, it’s worth a try. It sounds hard but it’s really just sitting on your bed and doing an exercise. It might work for you.

Yes, it’s odd like that. How’s the van life planning? I am seriously considering getting a small campervan in the new year. The idea would be to take short breaks at first and then see if I want to do it full time when winter sets in. Maybe there will be a vaccine by then ..

Go for it! It’s scary and marvelous and challenging and peaceful, all the usual contradictions involved in starting a new adventure! : ) … we’re chipping away at things. The trailer goes back into storage at the end of the month, probably until march/April next year, and the plan is to pick up where we left off, all things being equal. : ) which they may, or may not, be given the state of the world. : )

March/April is looking like when I’ll be firming up my plans too. 😊 here’s hoping the way gets clearer for travel both here and where you by then!

Vertigo is nasty , I can empathize with you . I have needed four admissions to hospital in 18 months, they cannot be certain what is causing it.

It’s one of those things where it could have a gazillion causes and nothing definitive.

Love the potpourri-ishness. It makes for a really cheery read and I feel the need right now!
Here in locked-down West Yorkshire, watching a charm, congregation, gulp, murder, tiding, or tittering of magpies (according to Professor Google) and waiting for the evening fog to fall, as it always seems to on Guy Fawkes’ Night, your tree is just the ticket. A real beacon and more than enough fireworks for me tonight!
Thanks.
PS good luck with the taps and megabytes – unfortunately, it is hard to imagine life without them these days

I love your site, which is new to me. I was so riveted by your description of the “new system,” which I sooo relate to, I realized suddenly that my arms were all curled up over my hunched over body in a fetal mode…been there done that (setting up the “system”” countless times since 1983 when my first computer arrived…and it was “here ya go sucker, don’t ask us what CP/M means.”

Yes, my Kaypro II (2) had two 5 1/4″ drives, the A drive held the operating program, CP/M, and some files. The B drive was for files and working projects. I loved that thing!
