  4. Most animals will play; they just don’t get the chance. I’ve seen the best videos of a full-grown bull playing with a tire – its owner provides it, throws it back, rolls it.

    Bull version of soccer.

I’m not fond of animals doing ‘tricks’ for human ‘entertainment’, but when they decide to play like this it always brings a smile to my dial. : D

      • Training is a way to get more attention from the human – it makes it more interesting for both, within limits.

Also, animals are hierarchical – they like to know their place in the herd. Humans who don’t train, not even for the basics, are not doing their wild animals (won’t call them pets – neighbors never trained their pest dogs) any favors.

In a real herd or pod or whatever, the animals would have occasional fights for position, but it isn’t constant. It saves a lot of energy not to, and is good for the survival of the group, and thus, the survival of the genes they have in common.
