It’s Not Personal, It’s Not Personal, It’s Not …

Do you know the very best night to be able to see the shooting stars from the Perseid Meteor Shower?

Tonight. the 11th August.

Do you know how many years I’ve lived here on Widder Island?

Eight.

Do you know how many years the night sky has been cloudy on the 11th of August, here on Widder Island?

Eight.

Am I taking this personally?

  1. I hate to point this out, but doesn’t this mean that this time of year is cloudy where you live?

Or is it that this ONE date is always cloudy, and the days around are usually not?

    In either case, my sympathies.

  2. I hung around in the back yard for a good 20 minutes a couple nights age, gawking at the sky. I could see a lot of stars, saw two satellites (one going N to S, the other S to N), but NO meteors. In past years, there were lots of them. I don’t think it’s me; there’s just more light pollution. If you have a nice dark spot to view from, don’t give up. The word is the meteor show will last another few weeks, even though the peak has passed.

Nature has a way with her petticoats – at least that’s what my gran used to say if it rained on the day we planned to go to the beach. I never understood why my mother used to tell her to behave

    Incredible.
It reminds me, on a much smaller scale, of when I’m walking down a really long block with no cars, no activity. Then, precisely when I’m crossing a driveway, a car pulls in out of nowhere and sits waiting for me to walk across. Like the WHOLE time I’m walking, nothing. Reach the driveway: car appears. Needs to pull in.
    Really?
    Seriously?
What happened on the 8th? Any luck?!

  5. We caught one in our “garden” in the middle of the vineyards outside of Stuttgart. And we weren’t even looking for it. 🙂

  7. Oh no! That’s the Pacific NW for you, but not in August, right? Isn’t August always clear? We haven’t seen it either. Maybe next year!
