In an email from WordPress this evening …
‘…On June 1 we’ll be retiring our older WordPress.com editor and transitioning to the more recent (and more powerful) WordPress block editor…’
They do retain the option for us to use the Classic Editor though, so there’s that, though I’m guessing it’ll have a limited lifespan.
But in honour of the occasion, let me reiterate …
I agree.

I agree. I used the Gutenberg grossness for about a year before giving it up. Not sure I got the e-mail either.

A perfectly apt alliteration.

What! I thought we had ages yet… Don’t you secretly wish there was a better alternative to WP?

Every now and then, at least once a week, yep! … the classic editor will still be operational, but no indication as to how long.

I am trying to convince myself to do this, I mean, how bad can it be?

Oh, I think it’s going to be frustratingly, annoyingly, much worse!!!

Even so, I will have to give it a go, for their present shenanigans are driving me crazy!

I’ve gone window shopping in the past and yes, there are nice alternatives, but they don’t have this community, and it’s the people that make WP.

We are a spectacularly wonderful bunch, aren’t we? 😀

-grin- YES! We /are/. 😀

I agree, so seems we are stuck with WP, good bad or indifferent…

How can I put this succinctly . . . WTF%^&*()_. AARGGGGHHH!!!!!! I have been using the old system for more than 7 years. I am happy. I do not want change. I am not a nice person when I get angry. Excuse me . . . I have to hit something.

They’d get a whole less aggression aimed in their direction if they sold this whole thing as a choice, of equal value … and stood by their word.

I just went to WordPress and it appears the old Classic version I have been using will still be available. Just opt for Classic. Whew. I left them a message. Now I need a cuppa tea!

I needed several bracing cups when I read the damn email last night!
Quite frankly I don’t care what else they do, just stop trying to FIX WHAT AIN’T BROKE!

Yeah. I’ll have a double of each–. Oh, no. Just two Bahs and a humbug, please.

At least we get to keep the Classic for a while… perhaps, for once, they listened?
When I had my last long ‘chat’ with a ‘Happiness Engineer’ I may have made my feelings about the new editor a tad clearer than they might have liked 😉

I am very fortunate in that I just swallowed a mouthful of tea a moment before I got to then end of your comment!!! 😀 … there’s certainly nothing ‘happy’ about the ‘engineering’ (do they even know the meaning of the word?) they have done this time … which is now added to all the other times they missed the mark.

Oh, that’s not good. I love the classic editor. 😦 I hope the option to use classic will be available for a long time.

I hope so too. 😦

It might have some benefit if you’re a ‘social media influencer’ or some such nonsense, but most of the people I know/follow, myself included, want to write some words and maybe a few pictures, and that’s it!

I keep putting off actually reading that email- it wasn’t just me that got it then!

Nope, not the only one. 😦 … it’s not all terrible, not yet. 😦

I’ve migrated on the basis I’d better get used to it. I’m broadly ok with it now even though it’s weaknesses are still apparent. I suppose I’m just naturally compliant…

I wish they’d tried a little bit harder (hah!) to make it more user-friendly, not some code-writers wet dream!

Yeah, I hate that new one too. I don’t do much blogging these days, though, so I guess it won’t kill me.

I fear we’ll have to get used to it in the end, but maybe if we complain long enough, they’ll fix all the incredibly annoying bits.

We can but hope … however, given the present state of the world in general, hope is a little thin on the ground.

Agreed. I’m normally very much glass-half-full. Nowhere near that cheery now.

I tried the new one and gave up, mainly because I couldn’t find how to add tags and categories. 😦

It’s like they didn’t even TRY to make it user-friendly!

My son, when deep in the agony of English Literature exams, declared bitterly that the Cheesesellers Wife would be a great name for a boring Booker prize winning novel……. 🙂
