The other day my blog-friend, Audrey, posted that she had reached her 10th Anniversary of blogging, which prompted me to check when I started. I knew it was a while ago but imagine my surprise when I dug into my archives for my first post, which turned out to be on the 27th September (3 days before my Birth Day) 2010!
Ten years! Who’d’a’ thunk!
I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a bit of a purge of my old posts that don’t reflect who I’ve evolved into, or have links that don’t work anymore, that sort of thing, and this seemed like an auspicious time to begin.
So, here’s what I’m going to do … from this Sunday-ish (17th May) and thence about every two weeks, until the end of September (2020) I’ll be revisiting one post from every year that falls on or about the 27th September and have a bit of a poetical wax about what I wrote … and just because I can, I’m going to start with 2019 and work backwards.
At the same time, I’ll be doing the purge-y bit starting in 2010 and working forward. I have no idea how much will disappear, or how I’m going to feel about it all, but it’s going to be an interesting journey.
I have digital copies of everything, of course, tucked away on an external hard drive in a drawer … somewhere … over there … and so as long as the files stay uncorrupted, those ‘deleted’ posts will exist. I might even print some out and keep for posterity … maybe.
If revisiting the Widdershins Worlds archives is something you’ve been dying to do for ages but have never found that perfect moment, here it is!
My usual completely erratic posts will continue as usual.
I really must sort all of ours out too… one of these days!

One of these days is fast becoming a mantra for trying to hold on to hope (but failing miserably!)

Have fun with it – but be warned, it’s harder to update than you think.

I don’t think I’ll be updating any of them. It’ll be a straight out ‘keep’ or ‘trash’. 😀

I do a delete-fest every year or so. Compulsive neat-freak, I’d think, if my house was a bit neater … but at least I know where everything is.

That’s impressive! 🙂 … and I know what you mean about knowing where everything is, and heaven help the poor sod who unwittingly, or even unwittingly, moves something. 😀

It is surprising how the posts build up… I’m over nine years in now, and there are thousands of the things 😉

Heh, the frequency of my postings are a little more erratic than yours, which I am massively impressed with by-the-way. 🙂

I look forward to reading the ‘previous you’! I often go back and resurrect some of my old posts. I may this Sunday. ( nothing new written ) I also keep hard copies of all my posts by year. I am so old school. I had an idea to take my favourite post from my first 5 years and put them into a book . . maybe one day. They are all put together, I’m not. (coward?)

It’s not cowardice, (which I think is an invented concept used to get other people to do what someone else is unwilling to do themselves) more like finding your timing. 🙂

I like that, thanks.

I started printing mine out a few years back for my Mum. Unfortunately she can’t read them now – which saves me a job 🙂

You got me curious so I checked. 10 years for me, too, by golly, with this blog, which changed names 3 times. Cheers to both of us! I like your idea of weeding out. I just might copycat you.

It’s like gardening I think, you remove stuff so that other stuff can grow. 🙂

10 December 2008 – and a blog post almost every day since then. I must be mad!

Indeed, but it’s a wonderful kind of madness, isn’t it? 😀

10 years! Congrats- and I look forward to the re-runs 🙂

It certainly doesn’t feel like ten years, but it might as I start the process and realise how many posts I have actually written. 🙂

Hey! Happy Anniversary. 😀
Does it seem that long to you?
I still have a year and a half to go before I hit 10 years, but it feels like when you suddenly realise that you’ve been living in your house for XX number of years. Wow, has it really been that long? And yet, it just feels like home?
Sorry, not making much sense there. I do like the idea of a retrospective. Will be interesting to see which posts you choose. 🙂

Nope, it feels like yesterday! 🙂 … maybe the day before, but not much longer than that! 🙂

lol – same! I guess it’s because we’re enjoying ourselves. 🙂

I’m kind of looking forward to it and not as well … a bit like moving house, I think. You feel excited at the prospect, but there’s just so much ‘stuff’ to pack. 😀

10 years! Congrats. I’ve done a bit of blog post purging but should be more methodical about it. I have so many posts that don’t really add any value or interest. Have fun sharing, waxing poetic, and deleting. 🙂

I just finished going through the 800 odd posts on my blog! (Now 600.) It took me a month but it does feel good now that it’s done.

Wow you have been on here a decade! Well done and I love the idea of reposting old “episodes” but don’t cull too many – where we have come from is important too

So far it’s mostly the ones that aren’t relevant anymore – movie trailers, that sort of thing. 🙂

Is there not something dishonest about editing the past?
Tidying it up is one thing, I have some duplicates, or posts in a font I no longer like. What did we see in Comic sans serif eh? I have been blogging since late 2006, starting on different now defunct platforms. Got to know a bunch of people on Yahoo 360, then we moved on to Multiply, which got bought up by some outfit from Asia that just wanted to sell things. Many of us are still in touch on Facebook. For some reason I was in the habit of duplicating to Blogger, which I still use. I ended up separating the blogs into categories but the earlier years have gaps and overlaps. A chore for winter. One of these years.
But anyway, of course early blogs no longer reflect who we are. But they record the journey. I would opt for footnotes instead of deleting. Spoken like a Cancer…

Hi, Ien, welcome to my little corner of the interwebz 🙂 … it’s an interesting process, observing how I wrote ten years ago, just as much as what I wrote.
So far all I’ve actually deleted are things like movie trailers and information with URL’s that are no longer active, that sort of thing.
I still have a soft spot in my heart for Comic Sans. 😀
