Spanish Flea

I had a completely indulgent day today.

I had the house to myself.

I stayed in bed, all day, reading and sipping tea.

Because Winter has finally taken the plunge into the minus temperatures, (and it’s finally stopped raining, for a few days at least) I had a little fan heater to keep the chills at bay. (we don’t use the built-in bar heaters in the bedrooms – little cottage, not necessary – and when we do the entire place smells like scorched dust bunnies! … so the fan heater steps up to the plate when the occasion arises)

I was reading book 9 in the Mary Russell series by Laurie King – a fabulous take on the Sherlock Holmes mythos … and Dragon Wing by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman – a 7 book series that I haven’t read since they were first released thirty years ago. I don’t usually read more than one book at a time, but it was a Day of Indulgence, so I did!

I was listening to my favourite music streaming channel, AccuRadio, when on a whim I did a search of their ‘Chill’ category, and came across their ‘Lounge/Exotica’ playlist, (which is an let’s call it ‘eclectic’, collection, I’ve listened to a few times) and what should be the first song off the rank but this.

If nothing else I hope it puts a smile on your dial …

OMG…I…remember. πŸ˜€ I used to listen to the LP as a teen. I am not going to think about how long ago that was. Thanks for this. And thanks for the Mary Russell recommendation. I love finding new authors. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are old, old friends. πŸ™‚

I stopped counting years when they started turning into decades. πŸ˜€

I loved the song ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ from Fiddler on the Roof, but I never really ‘got’ it until I had decades under my belt either. πŸ™‚

Yes, and back then we never truly believed it would happen to us, that age thing. πŸ™‚

I have to say though, I’m never bored now, whereas I remember being horribly bored as a kid. That time in between holidays was always an eternity because I hated it so much. I guess there are compensations with those decades.

I had a look at the Mary Russell series but the price of the ebooks made me gasp. I’ve been reading exclusively Indie books for so long, I’d forgotten how much the trad pubs charge. :/

I have a date with a day like this, and cannot wait for it to arrive! I probably won’t enjoy it half as much as you, though!

  6. Herb Alpert songs always bring me back to being a kid. My parents, brother, and I all loved listening to his records, even at the same time. Mellow moments. πŸ™‚ Mary is one of my favorite series, right up there with Jo Dereske’s Miss Zukas and Anne Perry’s Monk & Hesterly. Cheers to a Grand 2020 for you and the Missus, Widders!

  9. Your writing really has such an interesting capacity to bring me to the exact time and place that you are in. it’s so funny. It’s the cadence of your writing–it’s soothing and rhythmic and I find myself always enjoying the material you come up with.

Hope your New Year is treating you beautifully ❀
