Alpha Werewolves Are Doomed!

… because one of my favourite sites (io9) done told me so!

So what does this mean for the good old werewolf pack mentality in Fantasy? Probably not a lot, because it’s a trope that still works.

But wouldn’t it be fun if someone wrote a ‘wolfie’ story from this new perspective?

C'mon guys, I'm game if you are.

Hmmm, I quite like the Schenkel idea of having a feisty bitch by my alpha side! (Dunno what B will say about that!). But a story from this new perspective could be fun… Alpha male luring Little Red Riding Hood to gramma’s cabin where the Alpha bitch sits in front of gramma’s dressing table, dressed up to the nines in gramma’s ball gown and jewelry, applying makeup…

Did I somehow actually manage to catch a break? OK, granted my werre (were?) isn’t a wolf, but she IS a queen – werelynx to be exact – once I can get her to cooperate and decide to join in the fun.

A wild wolf pack story where it isn’t quite clear who is the top dog because they all show dominance in different ways? Sounds like some good scifi drama to me.

Alpha Bitch would be an awesome name of an all girl rock band.

I’m all up in this dog research by the way. I never liked the alpha dog theory.

I missed the werewolf craze, but a story without an alpha could be interesting 🙂

Fascinating post. Thank you for sharing. As always, fiction writers got it all wrong. :))

  7. It’s interesting that the alpha stuff shows up in captivity and not in the wild. If we extend captivity to mean civilization for humans, I wonder if we, humans, would be more civilized in the wild.
